Hi and thanks for visiting my site!
Born and raised on the East Coast, currently living in Chicago with my husband, son, and daughter. I just transitioned from the hospitality sector into health insurance but my true passion is the intersection of Indian and American culture. To that end, I have now launched a matchmaking service for South Asian professionals living in the US (www.singletoshaadi.com). Hoping to turn this #PassionProject into a full-time gig in the future.
I am a self diagnosed “info junkie” which keeps me busy watching, reading, listening, and consuming. I try to share the highlights of what I come across, here on the blog, but you can see much more of my stuff via social media. You can find me pretty much anywhere using the handle @radha824. Please share, comment, and engage – I look forward to it!
Want to live like me? Check out some of my faves below:
Box of Style – Fashion icon Rachel Zoe hand picks her favorite items every season and sends it to her “insiders” for a subscription price of $99 a quarter. You get pieces that are on trend for the season and retail at way more than what the subscription costs. Bonus, the more seasons you’re subscribed, you’ll get access to more and different perks.
HQ Trivia – My recent cellphone game obsession! Essentially, you have to answer 12 questions correctly, which get harder successively, and those left standing at the end split the grand prize. It’s on twice a day, 2pm and 8pm CST and though the typical jackpots are only around $5,000, they have special games throughout the week that are for big bucks. I love the quirky hosts (Quiz with me and get some money) and it’s refreshing to know that I can’t get addicted because the game only works twice a day so if I miss it, I just move on with my life. Use my referral code to get an extra life for yourselves and me: Radha824.
The Skimm – Delivered to your inbox every weekday morning, you get a quick snapshot of what’s going on from pop culture, to sports, to business and politics. It’s a good way to stay in the know and not be the one person who doesn’t know what your friends/co-workers are talking about. I read it every morning and the humor with which their “skims” are crafted help wake me up.
Uber – I love Uber! I can get a cab from anywhere in the world, and wait for them inside my house, which is especially useful in the cold Chicago winters. I can have my ride charged directly to my credit card, eliminating that awkward end of trip when you usually have to fight with the cabbie to use your credit card and are in the middle of the street somewhere, holding up traffic. And if I have time, I can share a ride in Uber pool and get round, sometimes for cheaper than a CTA ride.
Stitch Fix – I live in a household of boys and between work and family time, I can never find an afternoon to go shopping. I like to be trendy (to a point) and like showing off my style, and with Stitch Fix it’s easy. I took a style survey, gave a rough budget, and communicate with my team of stylists who help curate a monthly box for me. Each box has at least 5 pieces and I like to receive a mix of clothing, jewelry, and accessories. Next time you “like” my photo and wonder “where did she get that?”, more than likely, it’s from Stitch Fix.
Blooom – 401(k)’s are a great way to save for retirement, but if you’re like me, you never know if you’re investing in the right stuff. That’s why I use Blooom. It’s a simple fiver a month for them to go in and rebalance my portfolio on a quarterly basis. It’s a cheap and easy way to ensure your money is working for you so you can get that much closer to quitting that day job and traveling the world (or whatever you want to do; that’s just what I want to do). And if you visit their site using my link, they’ll check the health of your 401k, tell you what you are doing right and what you could be doing better! No charge! And if you hire them to make the changes on your behalf, you’ll get the first month for free – on me!
Parking Panda – Chicago is a very drivable city and apps like Parking Panda make it even easier. I can search for and reserve parking near where I am going, either in advance or on the fly, and often times for cheaper than posted prices. I find that even when it’s not cheaper, it’s easier to have pre-paid via the app and be on my merry way!
Soylent – For people who don’t typically have time for breakfast Soylent is a meal replacement not like any other. Not specifically designed for weight loss, it can be used for that, but mostly it’s like “eating” a meal on the go for busy people like me. I currently subscribe to 12 bottles a month of “Coffiest” which includes a little caffeine. Even Viraj, who never ate breakfast before, has gotten in on it. My trick: don’t drink it all in one go. Instead, drink a few sips at a time and space it out throughout your morning to help prevent that “I’m starving” feeling before lunch.
Le Tote – If you’re like me, you don’t have time to waste spending hours at a mall only to go into a bunch of different stores, sift thru racks (in the clearance section hoping to find a deal, let’s be real), and trying to figure out what’s on trend at the moment. Queue Le Tote. LT is like online shopping, only at a fraction of the cost and I can return things I don’t like, without having to leave my house. What if I really like something that I order? Easy; you keep it and get a huge discount since the items are technically used. They have clothes and accessories and help me always have “new clothes” without having to spend that much money.
Scent Box – I really enjoy wearing different perfumes for different occasions (work, girls night, desi function) but buying designer scents can add up. So I started using Scent Box instead! Each month you’ll choose a 30-day supply of a new designer fragrance that they’ll send right to your door (0.27 oz / 8 ml, 4 sprays a day for 31 days). No annoying fragrance counters at the mall, no buying big expensive bottles that you later realize you can’t stand. With over 850 original designer fragrances, you’ll have access to a large inventory that will allow you to really expand your fragrance library. Including some premium high-end fragrances that are just not affordable otherwise.
Ear Fleek – Another one of my “subscription services” but this one is really affordable for what you get. For $5 a month, you get a new pair of earrings sent to you in the mail. They tend to be more on the cheap side but I use their “voting” experience to customize the styles they will send me, and have been lucky enough to get some pretty good pieces that can be worn every day. If by accident I end up with one of the chintzy-er pieces, I give them to my daughter and she loves them!
*none of my suggestions are sponsored; you’ll just get a great deal and help me get some perks too!*
